Maxwell Football Club and VICIS Create Award to Recognize Equipment Managers
The Maxwell Football Club (MFC) is the oldest football club in America. Founded in 1935, the MFC recognizes outstanding contributors at all levels of football. Ron Jaworski, former NFL QB and current ESPN analyst, is MFC President. 2015 MFC award winners included JJ Watt, Marcus Mariota, Bruce Arians, and Lou Holtz.
The MFC has long recognized players and coaches, but starting in 2016 it will introduce a new award to recognize the NFL or NCAA FBS Equipment Manager or Trainer who has done the most to advance player safety. The award was created in partnership with a new football helmet company named VICIS and will be called the VICIS Innovation in Safety Award.
VICIS was founded in 2013 to develop a revolutionary new football helmet offering improvements in safety, style, and performance. Headquartered in Seattle, the company leverages neuroscience and engineering technology developed at University of Washington. VICIS was a 2014 winner of the NFL Head Health Challenge II grant contest sponsored by the NFL, GE, and Under Armour.
Marcus Mariota meets with members of the press during the 2015 MFC Awards Press Conference.
“This award allows the football community to recognize equipment and training staff for their important work,” said Dave Marver, VICIS CEO and Co-Founder. “While their work may not be high profile, equipment and training staff are critically important to the sport. We are grateful for the opportunity to shine light on these outstanding, highly-dedicated individuals.”
VICIS will feature outstanding Equipment Managers throughout 2015 on their website and via social media channels. The Maxwell Club Board will select the inaugural winner, who will be honored alongside winning coaches and players at the nationally televised Awards Banquet in Atlantic City in 2016.
You can learn more about VICIS at www.vicis.co or instagram.com/vicispro. VICIS will also be a first-time exhibitor at AEMA’s 2015 Convention in Indianapolis, June 2-4.
