Position Summary
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Michigan State University is looking for an Athletic Equipment Coordinator. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Receive and issue athletic apparel and supplies.
- Determine equipment needs and specifications, make budget recommendations, research products, meet with manufacturer representatives and vendors, and initiate paperwork to purchase athletic equipment in order to maintain adequate inventory levels.
- Monitor the correct equipment fitting and protection of athletes in order to prevent injury and protect the University from liability.
- Keep abreast of current NCAA rules and regulations regarding equipment and enforces such.
- Maintain computerized inventory system, including conducting seasonal and yearly inventories.
- Organize equipment identification and storage.
- Coordinate proper laundering, dry cleaning, reconditioning and clothing repairs.
- Supervise the daily activity of student employees and student managers.
- Organize all locker room needs for both MSU student athletes and visiting team athletes.
- Pack, load, unload and set up equipment and supplies for team trips.
- Make presentations on equipment to organizations.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Physical Education, Athletic Administration or related field with relevant coursework in business; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in equipment management, purchasing and fitting at a Division I school; knowledge and experience working with computers and software applications; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The job also requires certification by the Athletic Equipment Managers’ Association or completion of certification within two years of hire.
