Position Summary Information

General InformationJames Madison University, a Division I member of the NCAA and Sun Belt Conference, is accepting applications for a Director of Equipment Services. This position is a full-time, 12-month position with a full comprehensive benefits package. This position reports to the Assistant Athletic Director for Administration and Operations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, management and supervision of five equipment rooms, and four fulltime Equipment managers, the ordering, storage, laundering, inventory and distribution of apparel and equipment to student-athletes and coaches. This includes, but is not limited to providing an efficient and well-organized system for issuing apparel and equipment, ensuring appropriate documentation, records, and inventory for 18 sport programs, ensuring appropriate documentation, records and inventory are maintained according to industry standards. This position oversees all Athletics equipment rooms and may require being available nights and weekends. The anticipated start date is upon first availability.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesDuties include but are not limited to:Provide leadership in establishing and updating policies and procedures as they relate to ordering, issuing and recollecting equipment, and other equipment room related activities.Coordinates all activities and functions of the equipment room/storeroom, such as assistance with ordering, receiving and shipping, laundry services, equipment room storage and inventory, issuance, repair, and maintenance of equipment apparel and machinery. Assist with purchasing apparel and equipment for 18 Intercollegiate Athletic teams. Assist coaches with purchasing decisions and help order equipment for athletic programs. Track inventory using Front Rush Inventory Software and keep data entries up to date.Provide leadership, supervision, performance evaluation, guidance and encouragement to Athletic Equipment Room personnel. This includes but is not limited to: annual performance evaluations, scheduling, staff training and development. Supervise four full-time Assistant Equipment Managers, wage employees, and Student and Team Managers for the overall operation of APC (Football), Godwin Hall, AUBC and Memorial Hall Athletic Equipment Rooms. Ensure that performance evaluations are updated regularly in order to remain in compliance with JMU and State of VA guidelines.Manage the issuance, cleaning and collection of athletic apparel and equipment for intercollegiate teams. Ensure the distribution of practice and game uniforms, apparel, and equipment, and items are cleaned and returned to appropriate coaches and student-athletes. Special attention to adequate stain removal and uniform/equipment repair should be demonstrated. Maintain laundry facilities with attention to the operation of dryer ventilation systems.Manage Equipment Room Annual Budget as well as numerous special budgets which pertain to the equipment rooms. Assist as needed with invoicing and billing for student-athletes.Serve on special committees involving Equipment Room (e.g. Athletics Recognition Banquet, Varsity Awards Ceremony). Oversee the distribution of student-athlete awards and report items to the Compliance Officer per NCAA compliance regulationsStay current with all new advance in equipment and apparel, laundry services and embellishment of products and serve as department liaison with apparel contracts.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications:Previous experience working in college athletics or comparable equipment room operationsKnowledge of athletic equipment and apparel.Knowledge of fitting safety equipmentKnowledge of purchasing practices and proceduresPrevious experience supervising fulltime employeesAbility to maintain security of equipment and clothingAbility to work harmoniously with a wide variety of peopleAbility to enforce rules related to inventory controlPreferred Qualifications:Previous work within a Division I Intercollegiate Athletics program.Previous experience with Front Rush or similar inventory system

The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
