What makes the AEMA Certification a valid standard of our profession?
To build validity into the certification program the AEMA contracted with the Columbia Assessment Services (CAS), now called Meazure Learning, to establish a certification program. Meazure Learning was chosen because of their proven work in the athletic field with groups like the National Athletic Trainers Association. Meazure Learning did a role delineation study to find out what athletic equipment do as a group. Working with a committee of Equipment Managers, Meazure Learning created a role delineation for our profession. The role delineation broke our profession down into various areas where the equipment manager must be proficient. The role delineation is the keystone to our certification program. It identifies who we are, what we do and how long we spend doing it. The certification test is based on the role delineation with the amount of questions reflecting the percentages of time we spend in each area. Meazure Learning oversees the entire process, producing the examination from the information we provide them. They grade the test and constantly update the examination using established norms for certification testing.

What are CEUs?
Certified members need to earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in order to maintain certification. Recertification is required every three years. All members work on the same calendar. For this purpose, we have created windows for certification. To maintain certification the minimum number of units to be accumulated each three-year (3) continuing education period shall be (6.0) CEUs. Those certified within the 3-year period shall have their CEU requirements prorated for that period only (total CEU points needed will be based on the number of conventions that remain in the window.) The CEU report periods are July 1 through June 30th. The current window ends 6/30/25. The new window will run from July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2025.

Each district is represented by a CEC member, who is available to assist all members in maintaining their certification. A list of the Districts and the CEC members can be found on the website. How do I know how many ceu’s I need to earn?
If you are newly certified you may view you profile page for your exam scores and the number of ceu’s you will need for the remainder of the window. All other certified members will need (6.0) CEUs. If you are unsure of how many ceu’s you have accumulated, you can access your Continuing Education Activity Report on the website site. Under the Member’s Only section, you will be asked to login, and then you will be able to click on My CEU and see a list of the ceu’s you have earned, the total earned to date as well as how many are still needed for the window.
-
What activities will count for CEUs?
The website has a list of the CEU Categories. This document lists all of the current activities available to earn CEUs. It would be wise to print a copy of this list and keep it handy.
-
How do I know what supporting documentation is needed?
Supporting documentation is listed in the CEU Category document. In addition, when you submit your online request, when additional documentation is required, you will be asked to upload it as part of the submission process.
-
Should I keep copies of all ceu reports and documents?
Yes! Keep copies of all your ceu reports and documentation. If for some reason, your activity would not be recorded, it will be your proof for completion of an activity. When you go to convention, keep a list of workshops you attend so that you can verify you received credit for all ones you attended.
-
How do I know if I received credit for my activities?
Unless you hear otherwise from your representative, your activities should be recorded. You can check the website at any time to check your standings and to verify your activities have been recorded. If at any time you notice any discrepancies, report these to your CEC representative immediately. He/she will work with you to correct any errors.
-
How do I best ensure my CEU’s are recorded?
It is your responsibility to inform the National Office of any changes in position, address and institutions by updating your profile page. Failure to do so, may affect your certification.
