The Head Equipment Manager will oversee all areas of Stetson University Athletic Department’s equipment operations and equipment rooms. This position is responsible for establishing a philosophy and operational plan for procurement, inventory, disbursement, and maintenance of athletic equipment for 18 intercollegiate athletic programs. In addition, this position must prepare budgetary recommendations as well as monitor, verify, and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds to ensure fiscal solvency.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Employment duties include, but are not limited to:
- Equipment Management
- Oversee and manage daily operation of Equipment department for 18 intercollegiate athletic programs
- Implement operational plan
- Establish a procedures manual
- Manage procurement of equipment, uniforms, and supplies for all athletic programs and dept. staff
- Manage disbursement and collection of equipment
- Coordinate laundering of practice gear and game uniforms
- Establish an equipment/uniform replacement cycle
- Serve as department liaison with outside vendors and athletic manufacturers for quality equipment and services
- Budget
- Directly responsible for managing equipment department budget and assisting coaches and department directors in managing their respective equipment allocations
- Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations as well as monitor, verify, and reconcile expenditures of budgeted funds
- Inventory Management
- Develop, implement, and oversee inventory control system
- Utilize and maintain a computerized inventory software to provide reports to coaches and administrative staff
- Implement collection procedure for all disbursed equipment items and track unreturned/damaged items for billing purposes
- Additional duties include implementing security procedures to prevent inventory losses and developing a storage plan and philosophy for equipment rooms
- Staff Supervision
- Responsible for daily supervision of full-time Assistant Equipment Manager, part-time Assistant Equipment Manager, and student staff
- Ensure all staff are providing quality customer service to all student-athletes, coaches, staff members, etc.
- Establish staffing plan for equipment room, home & away contest coverage, as well as training and assigning staff to accommodate equipment needs for each sport
- Daily and occasional overnight travel in addition to evening and/or weekend coverage of home contests will be required
- Maintenance and Repair
- Perform minor repairs to equipment as well as ensuring proper fitting and maintenance of all safety and/or required equipment
- Establish an equipment replacement cycle for all safety equipment as well overseeing reconditioning of football helmets on annual basis
- Perform other site and position specific functions as assigned
Required Skills
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of inventory control/accountability, budget preparation, and management
- Strong computer skills
- Knowledge of equipment trends, proper fitting of athletic equipment, and laundry equipment operations
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
- Excellent coordination, organization, and communication skills
- Ability to interact with all members of the Stetson community as well as outside vendors and manufacturers
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs or more
- Ability to multitask, be flexible, and adapt to change
- Ability to have problem solving skills and to communicate effectively with coaches student athletes, and other athletic staff

Required Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in Equipment Operations, preferably in a NCAA Division I Athletics program or professional sports team
- Experience with equipment purchasing, distribution, collection, and laundering

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as determined by the University’s auto insurance carrier.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
- AEMA Certification
- Experience with Equipment operations
- Experience working in collegiate or professional equipment departments
- Must be willing to learn ordering process with BSN Sports and Nike
Work Environment: This position works out of multiple equipment rooms (Athletic Training Center, Edmunds Center, Melching Field) throughout Stetson University. It is a fast-paced environment where you will be working both inside and outside.
