Equipment Graduate Assistant—Northern Arizona University


Northern Arizona University, a NCAA Division I institution, and member of the Big Sky
Conference, seeks applicants for a 2-year Equipment Graduate Assistantship. This
position has a desired start date of August 1, 2025. Compensation includes a full
tuition waiver and a monthly stipend of $1,000 for ten months. The position is designed
for candidates who will be pursuing a master’s degree, and must obtain admission to a
graduate program by Fall 2025. The candidate will be renewed for a second year of
study based on performance.


Job Description
The graduate assistant will assist in the coordination and operation of all equipment
operations for the athletic department. This position plays an integral role in the
Internal Operations of the department and the selected individual will obtain
unparalleled experience. The candidate will also receive valuable skills needed to apply
for a full-time position upon completion of the assistantship. Candidate must be
available for evening and weekend events and comply with University, Conference, and
NCAA rules and regulations.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee student equipment managers daily schedules and responsibilities
    under the direction of the Director of Equipment
    • Coordinate practice field setups for football
    • Field liaison between the coaching staff and the equipment department
    • Help the Director of Equipment pack trunks, load the semi, and prepare other
    required materials for the upcoming game
    • Setup the locker room either at home or on the road
    • Setup the game field with the assistance of student managers for every game
    • Clean up the game field and locker room with the assistance of student
    managers after every game
    • Prepare a student laundry schedule each month
    • Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly checklists are being completed
    • it in on selected coaches’ meetings with the Director of Equipment with all
    sports (learning to move towards initiating and holding meetings with few
    selected sports)
    • Responsible for laundry being done for each required sport daily (can use
    student managers as help)
  • Assistance with CoachComm set-up and operation during
    games and practices.
    • Other duties as needed not listed in this description
    Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
    • Willingness to work long hours, weekends, and holidays.
    • Must be organized and able to multi-task.
    • Ability to focus, innovate and succeed in stressful situations.
    • Admission to a NAU Graduate Program by Fall 2025

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management or related field
    • Two of more years of prior experience in athletic administration, preferably in
    Equipment.
    • Experience with Coach Comm
    • Experience in training, scheduling, and supervising a staff comprised of students.
    • Strong desire to pursue a career in facility operations at the intercollegiate or
    professional athletics level
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
    • Ability to interact with people in multiple settings and varied backgrounds

  • Special Information
    Weekly office hours and staff meetings are mandatory but will be scheduled around
    university classes. There is a chance that work will be available over the summer months
    and if that happens, compensation will be available.
