Dexter Ricks, athletic director at Baldwin High School, said the district received a $3,000 grant for the boys’ tackle football program and a $5,000 grant for the girls’ flag football team.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Baldwin County School District has received a second grant from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation to support player safety.

Dexter Ricks, athletic director at Baldwin High School, said the district received a $3,000 grant for the boys’ tackle football program and a $5,000 grant for the girls’ flag football team.

With the most recent funding, the school purchased 60 new Guardian Caps — padded helmet covers designed to reduce impact during practices and help protect players from concussions.

The girls’ flag football team also received Xenith Loop Guardian Caps, which offer head protection while leaving the top of the head uncovered.

Both teams will begin using the new safety equipment immediately.
