Job Description:

Western Kentucky University, a member of Conference USA and a Football Bowl Subdivision NCAA member institution, seeks to hire an individual for the position of Director of Equipment Operations – Football.  This is a 12-month, full-time position.  This position will report to the Director of Football Operations as the immediate supervisor and ultimately to the Head Football Coach.  Applicants must have a commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of WKU, Conference USA and the NCAA.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive.  Depending on management discretion and institutional needs, duties may be added, deleted, and assigned.
Serve student-athletes, coaches and administrators by providing a direct and designated point of contact related to football equipment operations
Lead, organize and coordinate all aspects of equipment and on-the-field activities and operations
Order equipment and apparel in compliance with University policies and procedures and in accordance with athletics exclusive vendor contract (currently Nike/BSN)
In collaboration with the Director of Football Operations monitor and maintain appropriate inventory control of equipment and apparelIn consultation with the Athletic Business Office and the Director of Football Operations, identify and recommend equipment and apparel for surplus or disposal in accordance to University policies and procedures
Oversee and manage all football equipment issues including safety compliance, equipment maintenance, and overall equipment safety on game days and within practice facilities
Lead, organize and coordinate all aspects of football equipment and sideline technology away game travel logistics and away game site set-up/tear down
Hire, supervise and mentor managers/students working in equipment and one full-time assistant
Perform maintenance and testing of coaches headsets and other sideline technology including but not limited to tablets.
This position will be expected to use discretion and independent judgment to develop and implement policies and protocols related to the day-to-day equipment operations of the football program and must analyze and recommend changes to established policies and/or practices
Supervise, direct and comply with applicable rules and regulations governing safety and sanitary environments
Provide education to appropriate employees regarding applicable rules and regulations for a safe and efficient work environment
Develop and implement policies and protocols for safe fittings related to football equipment/apparel by following AEMA established guidelines in order to ensure optimal fit
Perform continuous evaluations of policy and protocols related to the fit of football equipment/apparel and perform routine checks in order to maintain proper fit
Inspect and repair (as necessary) equipment/apparel through visual and physical observation and routine inspection in order to maintain functionality and safety standards
Coordination and communication with Director of Operations on the distribution of equipment and apparel with student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers and others as necessary
Develop and manage football equipment budget to meet budgetary guidelines and expectations.
Perform timely monthly credit card reconciliation and adhere to University policies and procedures regarding use
Build and maintain relationships with University contract vendors for equipment.
Creative and effective use of resources in order to perform all necessary tasks
Assist where necessary as it relates to recruiting and fundraising operationsIdentify creative opportunities and strategies to promote WKU brand awareness
Supervise and direct student workers on processes to comply with athletics hiring protocols along with university, NCAA and Conference USA policies
Assist other WKU sport teams and coaches with equipment and apparel needs as requested or where appropriate.
Commitment to WKU, Conference USA and NCAA rules and regulations
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Football Operations / Chief of Staff and/or the Head Football Coach

Knowledge and Skills Considered Essential for Success
Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
Must be self-motivated and team-oriented.
Excellent organization, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Experience with Microsoft Office products.
Ability to lift 50lbs.
Must be willing and able to flexible hours, including work evenings and weekends.
The duties and responsibilities of this position must be performed in a competent manner following the highest standards for leadership, professionalism, integrity, accountability, responsibility, cooperation and customer service.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree
AEMA certification, or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of employment
Minimum of three (3) years of full-time Division I or Professional Football Equipment operations experience.

Additional Information:

Salary Range:  $50,000 – $62,000
