Director of Facilities and Equipment/ATC—Stetson University

The Director of Facilities and Equipment/ATC will oversee all areas of the Stetson University Athletics Department at the Athletic Training Center, including the facility and equipment room. This position is responsible for establishing a philosophy and operational plan for procurement, inventory, disbursement, and maintenance of athletic equipment for teams located and serviced from the Athletic Training Center. In addition, this position will prepare budgetary recommendations as well as monitor, verify, and reconcile the expenditure of budgeted funds for football and other teams’ equipment at the Athletic Training Center. The Director will assist and work with facilities to ensure events are properly covered and buildings are maintained/maintenance on a regular basis.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Employment duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Independently responsible for ordering apparel and equipment for assigned sports
  • Forecast yearly team equipment needs and discuss with coaches, in preparation for budget submittal
  • Develop, along with Assistant AD Facilities, Operations, and Equipment, an inventory system to track issue, retrieval, and stock items
  • Assist and develop policy for purchasing new uniforms
  • Implement security procedures to prevent inventory losses and developing a storage plan and philosophy for equipment rooms
  • Maintain accurate up to date information records per athlete, coach, and staff
  • Responsible for identifying areas of the building needing to be maintenance and repaired to ensure it’s presentable, functional, and operational
  • Perform minor repairs to equipment as well as ensure proper fitting and maintenance of all safety and/or required equipment
  • Coordinate with opposing team staff for home and away competitions
  • Work home competitions of sports assigned
  • Supervise event staff personnel, including student workers and part-time professional staff for facilities, operations, and equipment room coverage
  • Coordinate and meet with coaches and staff on a regular basis for practice and competition schedules, recruiting weekends, summer camps, and game day operations
  • Establish an equipment replacement cycle for all safety equipment as well overseeing reconditioning of football helmets and shoulder pads on annual basis
  • Assist with facilities as needed for practice and competition preparation, such as set-up and breakdown
  • Coordinate visiting team arrival and departure 
  • Oversee and manage daily operation of Equipment department for sports operating out of Athletic Training Center
  • Organize and label all equipment in the equipment room
  • Serve as lead equipment manager for football
  • Maintain appropriate training and certifications to meet industry standards for properly fitting protective equipment such as but not limited to helmets and shoulder pads (AEMA Certification)
  • Prepare and coordinate transportation of apparel and equipment for home and away competition for football; work with DFO and Sports Medicine department to ensure all items are packed and transported
  • Fit, clean, repair equipment; maintain accurate records on maintenance of protective equipment and meets NOCSAE standards
  • Laundry facility operation which includes laundering all practice and competition gear teams operating out of Athletic Training Center
  • Serve as department liaison with outside vendors and athletic manufacturers for quality equipment and services
  • Responsible for daily supervision of student staff assigned to Athletic Training Center
  • Establish staffing plan for equipment room, home & away contest coverage, as well as training and assigning staff to accommodate equipment needs for each sport
  • Perform other site and position specific functions as assigned

Required Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of inventory control/accountability, budget preparation and management
  • Strong computer knowledge 
  • Knowledge of equipment trends, proper fitting of athletic equipment, and laundry equipment operations
  • Strong coordination, organization, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs or more
  • Must be able to multitask, be flexible, and adapt to change
  • Problem solving skills 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coaches, student athletes, and other athletic staff
  • Support the University’s Mission and Values in their role

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2 Years Experience in Equipment Operations, in a NCAA Athletics program or professional sports team
  • AEMA Certification
  • Experience working with NCAA or Professional Football program
  • Experience with equipment purchasing distribution, collection, and laundering

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as determined by the University’s auto insurance carrier.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • AEMA Certification
  • Experience with Equipment operations
  • Experience working in collegiate or professional equipment departments
  • Prior experience ordering through an all-school apparel agreement using Nike. Net, Nike custom and BSN

Work Environment: This position works out of the Athletic Training Center. It is a fast-paced environment where you will be working both inside and outside. Work weekends, and evenings at times on short notice. Overnight travel required with football.

Salary Grade:  5
