Director of Facilities, Operations, and Equipment/Melchin Field–Stetson University

Under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities, Operations, and Equipment, the Director of Facilities, Operations, and Equipment/Melching Field is responsible for the day-to-day activities of Olympic sports operating out of Melching Field and the Athletic Training Facility. The Director performs equipment, laundry, and locker room operations while serving students, coaches, and staff. This position maintains upkeep, maintenance, and repairs for game and practice preparation of facilities designated. The Director also assists in the day-to-day equipment operations for all 18 Division 1 sports. This position is responsible for assisting the Assistant AD Facilities, Operations and Equipment, with ordering, issuing, retrieval, maintenance, and laundering of uniforms and equipment of all 18 intercollegiate teams. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Employment duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day activities for Olympic sports operating out of Melching Field and Athletic Training Center
  • Independently responsible for ordering apparel and equipment for assigned sports
  • Forecast yearly team equipment needs and discuss with coaches, in preparation for budget submittal
  • Serve as lead facility and equipment manager at Melching Field
  • Prepare and coordinate transportation of apparel and equipment for home and away competitions
  • Prepare and distribute practice and competition apparel and equipment for Olympic teams housed in Melching Field and Athletic Training Center
  • Coordinate with opposing team staff for home and away needs
  • Work home competitions for assigned sports
  • Supervise event staff personnel, including student workers and part-time professional staff for facilities, operations, and equipment room coverage
  • Responsible for identifying areas of the building needing to be maintenance and repaired to ensure it’s presentable, functional, and operational
  • Perform minor repairs to equipment as well as ensuring proper fitting and maintenance of all safety and/or required equipment
  • Oversee facility set up and break down for home games at Melching Field and assist Asst Athletic Director Facilities, Operations, and Equipment with game day duties at other facilities
  • Coordinate and meet with coaches and staff on a regular basis for practice schedules, itineraries, recruiting weekends, summer camps, and game day operations
  • Manage issuing and fitting of athletic equipment for specific sports (if needed)
  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the equipment room location of assigned teams including laundry and inventory of equipment
  • Manage equipment needs of visiting teams and game officials when necessary
  • Perform other site and position specific functions as assigned

Required Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of inventory control/accountability, budget preparation and management
  • Strong computer knowledge 
  • Knowledge of equipment trends, proper fitting of athletic equipment, and laundry equipment operations
  • Must have knowledge of various sporting equipment, safety standards, and proper maintenance of said equipment
  • Strong coordination, organization, and communication skills
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs or more
  • Must be able to multitask, be flexible, and adapt to change
  • Problem solving skills 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coaches, student athletes, and other athletic staff
  • Support the University’s Mission and Values in their role

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Associate Degree with one (1) year of athletic equipment room experience required on the NCAA or professional level
  • Prior ordering experience of athletic equipment
  • Must be AEMA certified or certified within six (6) months of hiring date

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as determined by the University’s auto insurance carrier.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • Experience working in the NCAA or professional equipment departments.
  • Knowledge of the NCAA and Atlantic Sun rules and regulations.
  • Ability to supervise and schedule student staff

Work Environment: This position works out of multiple equipment rooms (Melching Field and Athletic Training Center) throughout Stetson University. It is a fast-paced environment where you will be working both inside and outside. 

Salary Grade:  5
