Manager of Equipment Operations / Assistant Coordinator of Facilities and Events—The College of Wooster

Summary:

The Manager of Equipment Operations / Assistant Coordinator of Facilities and Events oversees all aspects of the athletic equipment room servicing the College’s 23 varsity sports and intramural programming and is an important member of the facility and event operations team, providing oversight and management of game / event administration throughout the year. Additional responsibilities may be assigned in areas such as committee work and administration. Please note that this is a twelve (12) month position with benefits that includes morning, evening, and weekend responsibilities. 

Essential Departmental Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and enforces equipment room policies, including hours of operation.
  • Provides laundry services for all varsity teams, including distribution and collection of practice and game uniforms.
  • Assesses annual needs for activities and laundry; supports budget requests and assists with equipment and apparel needs.
  • Collaborates with the Equipment Purchasing Manager, as well as coaches and administrators, to purchase equipment, including clothing and uniforms, through service and purchasing contracts with designated vendors.
  • Approves practice and game uniform purchases to ensure compliance with the College’s branding initiative.
  • Creates and implements comprehensive system for inventory of equipment and apparel to include checkout and check-in procedures, daily logs, identification and control of all athletic equipment.
  • Maintains laundry room equipment and chemical levels.
  • Provides equipment services (set-up, repair, replacement) at football games.
  • Assists with game operations duties as appropriate.
  • Enforces facility policies and procedures.
  • Attends weekly planning meetings as part of the facility and operations team.
  • Coordinates facility set up and breakdown for seasonal use and events held in athletic venues.
  • Provides organization, oversight and management for scheduled events, including pre-event preparation, on-site administration, and post-event follow-up when necessary.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates student workers and part-time employees, including payroll approval.
  • Serves as an active member of the athletic department’s team, responsible for providing leadership, goals, and program implementation to our nearly 2,000 undergraduate students.
  • Assists with designated departmental, divisional, and/or College committees, initiatives and processes.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with two years of experience working in equipment operations and handling team laundry preferred.
  • Previous experience working in facility and/or event operations at the collegiate level preferred.
  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing varsity athletic equipment and uniforms.
  • Athletic Equipment Managers certification preferred (and can be supported after hire).
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification is required (and can be completed after hire).
  • The ability to obtain College driver certification is desirable.

  • Capability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.  
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.          

Knowledge: 

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
  • Proficiency in using technology including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Highly organized with strong time management skills.
  • Strong collaborative skills with a team-oriented approach.
  • Demonstrated dedication to continuous personal and professional development.

Work Environment: 

  • Weekends and evenings are required depending on time of year
  • Travel for athletic contests, convention/caucus attendance may be required.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The individual must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Some heavy lifting / moving equipment may be required.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
