American International College
 seeks a dedicated and detail-oriented Assistant Equipment Manager to support the daily operations of the athletic equipment room. This position plays a crucial role in managing athletic gear and apparel for all of the college’s sports teams, ensuring our student-athletes are properly outfitted and ready for competition. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, a strong communicator, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with varying demands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Equipment Management: Assist the Head Equipment Manager with the daily issuance, retrieval, and inventory of athletic equipment and apparel for all varsity sports. This includes a wide range of tasks from fitting student-athletes for new gear to tracking the return of uniforms after the season.
  • Laundry and Maintenance: Oversee the washing, drying, and general maintenance of all athletic laundry, uniforms, and practice gear. Ensure all equipment is cleaned and stored properly to maintain its longevity and hygienic standards.
  • Work-Study Program Oversight: Manage the scheduling, training, and supervision of all student work-study employees. This includes delegating tasks, ensuring all duties are completed efficiently, and serving as the primary point of contact for the students in the program.
  • Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate records of equipment inventory, distribution, and repairs. This may involve using inventory management software and creating reports on equipment usage and needs.
  • Liaison and Support: Act as a liaison between the equipment room and coaching staff, providing assistance with team equipment needs and game-day preparation.
  • Repair and Inventory: Coordinate with vendors and athletic department staff for the repair or replacement of damaged equipment. Assist with annual inventory audits to ensure accuracy and plan for future equipment purchases.

Working Conditions & Reporting

  • This is a full-time, salaried position that reports directly to the Head Equipment Manager.
  • The work schedule will require flexibility and include some nights and weekends to support the athletic teams’ practice and game schedules.
  • The position may require lifting heavy equipment and standing for extended periods.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a sports equipment room, athletic department, or a related field is a plus.
  • Experience in a supervisory role is highly desirable.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills are essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, coaches, and staff.
  • Knowledge of various sports equipment and laundry best practices is a plus.
  • Must be a self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team.
