Job Description:

USC Athletics is looking to hire an Associate Director of Equipment Operations to join our staff and student community of 600+ individuals. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the equipment room and needs of the various teams are met daily; supporting the assigned sports with Nike orders utilizing the Gameday ordering system; assisting with modifying selection, quantities, and embellishments of apparel, shoes, accessories, and protective equipment; being educated in fitting of equipment while making adjustments to equipment for the safety of the student-athlete; distributing equipment to student-athletes, staff, and others; ensuring measures are followed for proper equipment inventory control and record keeping with the mission of documenting all transactions of ordering, receiving, and distribution of equipment; confirming uniforms are in compliance with NCAA and Pac-12 regulations and policies along with our style guide; properly issuing equipment through Front Rush Software and labeling applicable articles of equipment with recipients’ appropriate clothing label; ensuring laundry operations are properly conducted; delegating daily responsibilities and operations to student workers; ensuring adherence to NCAA, Pac-12, University of Southern California, and Athletic Department rules and regulations.

Additional requirements include communicating with sport coaches and educating them on the new innovations and technology of protective equipment and apparel as it pertains to the sports assigned including working closely with the Nike Testing division; managing the maintenance and reconditioning of the equipment and coordinating sport equipment needs for special events; assessing personnel needs and assigning student workers appropriately; traveling with teams and working irregular/variable shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Reporting to the Director of Olympic Equipment Operations for 75% of the time and to the Associate Athletic Director of Equipment Operations for 25% of the time, the Associate Director of Equipment Operations will work in collaboration with Equipment, Football Operations, Recruiting, Sports Medicine, Strength & Conditioning, Creative, and Facilities departments. Sports and primary location (Galen Center, John McKay Center, etc.) will be assigned based on qualifications, experience, and department needs.

The ideal candidate must demonstrate excellent time management skills and priority setting skills, proficient communication skills (both written and verbal), great utilization of Microsoft Office, ability to develop and implement improvements to move the department forward, be highly thorough and dependable while maintain a high degree of professionalism, display discretion and integrity and possess strong leadership skills, possess flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment, and provide a positive example to student-athletes by supporting the mission statement of USC Athletics. Knowledge of and experience working in higher education preferred. Understanding of the unique culture and needs of college athletes preferred.

This is a non-exempt position with work expected during the season and off-season to ensure assigned sports needs are met daily. Ability to work a flexible schedule to include availability for early morning hours, evening hours, and weekends.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Oversees and participates in the daily operation of the athletic equipment room.
  • Oversees daily laundering of player loops, coaches/staff loops, uniforms, and towels.
  • Responds to requests from coaches for equipment/uniform needs.
  • Ability to obtain AEMA certification with the first year of employment and maintain certification annually.
  • Maintain an accurate athletic inventory control using Front Rush System and adheres to NCAA, Pac-12, and institutional guidelines and policies.
  • Distributes and collects athletic equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
  • Equipment repair and modifications.
  • Promotes an environment that fosters inclusive relationships and creates unbiased opportunities for contributions through ideas, words, and actions that uphold principles of the USC Code of Ethics.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree and two years of experience (three to five years preferred) working in a college or professional equipment room. Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.
  • Certified Athletic Equipment Manager (or able to receive AEMA certification within 1 year).
  • Strong desire to pursue a career in the field of equipment management.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Front Rush.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Experience working in higher education and/or a sports related field ideal.

Hourly Range:

The hourly rate range for this position is $29.67-33.41.
