Eastern Michigan University is accepting applications for Graduate Assistants – Equipment Operations position for the 2024-25 academic year. Located in Ypsilanti, Mich., Eastern Michigan is a member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and sponsor of 19 Division I sports.
Job duties include: Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred qualifications include a minimum of one year experience in an intercollegiate athletic equipment room. Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to lift items up to 50 lbs. All candidates should possess an ability to meet deadlines and work efficiently under pressure. Working occasional nights and weekends and having the ability to travel are also required.
Responsibilities include, but are not confined to: Assisting in receiving, distribution, inventory and maintenance of athletic equipment and apparel. Must be knowledgeable of NCAA and MAC conference rules and regulations. Department staff found in violation of governing rules and regulations are subject to disciplinary or corrective action up to and including termination of employment.
This is a two-year assistantship with an estimated start date of August 1, 2024. The successful applicants must meet the admission requirements for EMU’s Graduate School and will be awarded a bi-weekly stipend plus tuition.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the day-to-day operations of the equipment room to include supervision of student managers • Assist with practice and game laundry
- Work closely with coaches to ensure the assigned team’s equipment needs are met
- Keep inventory on all apparel, footwear, and accessory items for assigned teams
- Assist in the embellishment process of team issued apparel
- Assist in scheduling student managers and interns as needed
Qualifications:
- Minimum of one year experience in a Intercollegiate Equipment Room
- Sports related career interest and background
- Must be self-motivated with an attention to detail and accuracy
- Evening and weekend hours with some travel is required
