Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) – 2026
Position Overview
The AEMA Board President serves as the leader of the Association, providing strategic
governance leadership, ensuring organizational integrity, and advancing the mission and
priorities of AEMA on behalf of its membership. The President plays a critical role in fostering a high-performing, ethical, and
forward-looking Board, while serving as a visible ambassador for the profession of athletic equipment
management.
The AEMA Board President plays a critical role in:
• Shaping the future direction of the Association
• Strengthening the governance and leadership structure of AEMA
• Supporting the success of the staff [Executive Director / Operations Manager /
Treasurer]
• Advancing the equipment management profession nationally
Term & Election
• Elected by a majority vote of the AEMA membership
• Serves a four (4) year term
• Eligible to serve no more than two (2) consecutive terms
• In the event of a vacancy, the Vice President assumes the role of President for the
remainder of the term
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates for President must:
• Be a certified AEMA member in good standing (dues current; no active sanctions or
disciplinary actions)
• Have served at least one full term on the AEMA Board of Directors within the prior six
(6) years
• Demonstrate a strong record of leadership, service, and commitment to AEMA and the
profession
Core Responsibilities
Governance & Leadership
• Preside over Board of Directors meetings and National membership meetings
• Establish Board meeting agendas in collaboration with the Executive Director
• Call meetings of the Board as necessary to ensure effective governance
• Lead the Board in fulfilling its fiduciary, strategic, and policy responsibilities
• Ensure adherence to AEMA bylaws, governance standards, and ethical practices
Supervision & Partnership
• Provide guidance, support, feedback & supervision to the Executive Director
• Serve as the primary Board liaison to AEMA Staff members
• Maintain regular communication (e.g., scheduled monthly or bi-weekly check-ins)
Board Development & Committee Oversight
• Appoint committee chairpersons, subject to Board approval
• Serve as an ex-officio member of all committees
• Promote Board engagement, accountability, and effectiveness
• Support leadership development and succession planning within AEMA
Representation & Advocacy
• Serve as the official spokesperson for the Board of Directors
• Represent AEMA at key events, meetings, and industry engagements
• Champion the mission and visibility of AEMA and the equipment management
profession
• Strengthen relationships with partners, stakeholders, and aligned organizations
Time Commitment
This is a volunteer leadership position requiring a meaningful and consistent time
commitment, including:
• Several hours per month dedicated to governance responsibilities
• Regular meetings with the Executive Director
• Participation in Executive Committee meetings
• Participation in full Board meetings (primarily virtual)
• Attendance at least one in-person meeting annually (e.g., AEMA National Convention)
• Additional time as needed for strategic initiatives or organizational priorities
